Are things running on the ground just going "by feel"?
"It seems like there are a few more defects in this process." "The temperature seems higher than before."
Problems can sometimes be discovered on-site through these kinds of inconsistencies. However, if there is no data to support those inconsistencies, it becomes difficult to explain the need for improvement or to verify the effectiveness of the countermeasures.
After a problem occurs, even if you look back and ask, "What was the temperature at that time?", if you don't have the measurement conditions or records from that time, you may no longer be able to confirm it.
What's important in temperature control isn't just looking at the numbers in the moment, but being able to explain them later when you look back on them.
Redefine
It might not just be accuracy that's lacking.
I have a thermometer. It even display a number. Yet, sometimes I still have trouble explaining the temperature.
Why is that?
The problem isn't that the measurements themselves aren't being taken, but rather that we can't explain under what conditions those numbers were obtained and how reliable they are.
What's required in production management and quality control isn't simply a "temperature that seems correct."
It's important that the person looking at that value understands "why this number can be used to make a decision."

How are reliable measurements produced?
The reliability of the measurement is not determined solely by the accuracy of the thermometer itself.
Measure correctly
Select the appropriate measurement target, measurement location, temperature range, sensor type, and installation conditions.
Make it possible to compare them.
The difference between the measuring instrument's value and the reference is confirmed by comparing it with a standard instrument and performing calibration.
Keep a record
This allows us to later verify when, where, with what equipment, and under what conditions measurements were taken.
Considering traceability
Our goal is to link measurement results to standards and calibration systems, and to be able to explain their reliability.
Differences between JCSS calibration and general calibration
It's not enough to simply buy accurate equipment. It's crucial to consider the entire measurement system, including measurement methods, installation, calibration, recording, and operation.
CHINO
What Chino has supported is something beyond just the numbers.
Chino has not only provided temperature measuring devices.
We offer a wide range of products and services for measuring, recording, and monitoring temperature, and ensuring the reliability of the results, including temperature sensors, radiation thermometer, recorders, controllers, monitoring systems, calibration equipment, and calibration services.
Category
Temperature, humidity, and other parameters are measured appropriately according to the object being measured and its application.
Control
Based on the measured values, process and equipment are adjusted to bring them closer to a stable state.
Monitor
Record the status so that you can notice any abnormalities or changes.
Trust
Calibration and traceability support the reliability of the measured values.
Rather than considering each element in stand alone, we connect them together to suit the specific needs of the field. That's Chino's approach to temperature measurement.
Decision
Even a slight difference can change the outcome of a decision.
Is the temperature measurement outside the control standard, or are there differences due to the measurement method or installation conditions?
If you can't distinguish between these differences, you might take unnecessary measures or overlook truly necessary improvements.
Therefore, in temperature control, it's not enough to simply "look at the numbers"; it's crucial to understand the meaning of those numbers and be able to make informed decisions based on them.
The question, "Is that temperature really correct?" can lead to a review of measurement methods, calibration, installation, recording, and monitoring.
Next week
First, what should we review?
- Are the measurement target and measurement location appropriate?
- Is the selection of temperature sensors and radiation thermometer appropriate?
- Are there any errors due to installation or wiring?
- Can the calibration status of the measuring instrument be checked?
- Are you able to continuously record the measurements?
- Is there a mechanism to detect changes in abnormal situations?
- Can you explain those figures to a third party?
Next week
Who guarantees that temperature?
Transforming on-site anomalies into explainable numbers requires not just a single piece of equipment, but a system encompassing measurement, calibration, recording, and monitoring.
